Most of the models on this blog are designed for Excel 2003 or earlier versions. Sometimes however, Excel 2007 or 2010 are the only versions available even though they might be far slower when running these models. Resizing, Translating and Rotating Shapes in Excel

11/15/2010

Five different shape alterations are presented: 1. Resizing – which can be done independently on each axis by multiplying the coordinates by a certain factor while the shape is centered in the origin. 2. Translation – which can be done independently on each axis by adding or subtracting a term to each coordinate. 3. Simple rotation – formulas were derived for rotation of a shape centered in origin by a…

Creating Shapes on a 2D Scatter Chart

10/01/2010

This post shows you how to draw a closed polygon (in this case a triangle for simplicity) on a 2D scatter plot in Excel 2003. 1. For this you need to sketch what you want to draw on a paper or just create a mental visualization. 2. In this sketch you need to define the vertices (corners) of the shape and figure out the approximate coordinates. 3. Create a table…

Basic 3D-2D (Perspective) Visualization

09/27/2010

The first two worksheets of this Excel workbook illustrate the creation and display of a rectangle by using a 2D scatter plot. They also show how to adjust its size, translate and rotate it. In the third worksheet a wire-frame cube is created. 3D-2D persective calculations are done. The cube can be zoomed and it can also be rotated in azimuth and altitude using simple macros. [sociallocker][/sociallocker]
